Therapists for college students near 30303
Dr. Josephine Almanzar
I am a Licensed Psychologist who offers individual therapy, as well as learning disorders, ADHD, personality and psychopathology testing. My training has primarily consisted of working with college students in counseling centers and private practice settings. I offer therapy and have experience addressing depression, self-esteem, grief, relationships, anxiety, and identity development. I also offer comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations for learning disorders and ADHD, as well as psychological evaluations to assess mood, personality, and relationship functioning. In psychotherapy and testing, I pride myself on taking a strengths-based approach; I believe that we all have undiscovered strengths that can be useful during challenging times. My theoretical orientation is Interpersonal, an integrative framework that helps you explore your life through the perspectives of connection, thoughts, and emotions. I welcome you to be all of who you are, while helping you explore all that you can be. You may be wondering if you are capable of taking this step, and the answer is YES! It may take you out of your comfort zone, but you are not alone once you step outside of it. Sometimes we need additional support to reach our potential and navigate change, and it is my honor to be a helping hand in your life. * I am a Clinical Supervisor at the Georgia State University Counseling Center (GSU Counseling Center). While I am also listed as an independent provider on ThrivingCampus, my inclusion on this platform does not constitute endorsement, recommendation, or preferential referral by Georgia State University or the GSU Counseling Center. Services provided through my private practice are separate and independent from my role at GSU. Students are free to choose any provider listed on ThrivingCampus or seek services elsewhere, and selecting my services will not influence access to care, services, or standing within the GSU Counseling Center.
Soul Healing Counseling
I view the soul as your mind, will, and emotions—the essence of who you are. Trauma can leave wounds that shape your view of yourself and the world, leaving fractures in your soul. Healing to me is not about ‘fixing,’ but about meeting yourself with compassion, understanding the protective patterns that once kept you safe, and reconnecting with the authentic self beneath them. I believe that every person carries an innate capacity for healing, even when pain and shame feel overwhelming. I trust that our wounds, when met with love and grace, can become openings to deeper wisdom, resilience, and growth. I also believe that healing is not a linear path—it unfolds gently, at your own pace, when safety and compassion are present. My work is rooted in the belief that wholeness is possible. "Grace softens the pain, love holds the wound, and compassion leads the healing.” The approaches I use are grounded in years of experience walking alongside survivors of trauma. Together, we’ll work with tools that go beyond surface-level coping and actually reach the root of what’s happening in your body and brain. Through Brainspotting, we can access and release the deep, unprocessed experiences that often drive anxiety and overwhelm. With trauma-informed DBT skills, you’ll learn practical ways to manage emotions, reduce shame, and build resilience. Using somatic approaches, we’ll gently reconnect with your body’s wisdom so that you feel more grounded and safe in your own skin. All of this work is held within a compassion-centered framework—because healing isn’t about fixing what’s ‘broken,’ it’s about meeting yourself with kindness and learning to trust your own inner strength. My goal is for you to leave therapy with tools you can carry with you anywhere—simple, effective practices that help calm your body, quiet your mind, and create space for peace.

Jahna Shiovitz
Hi there! I work best with people who are carrying a lot at once, whether that’s anxiety, relationships that keep hurting them, substance use that feels out of control, or old experiences they’re finally ready to look at. They usually appear fine on the outside but feel worn down on the inside. What they share is knowing something needs to change and being ready to do the hard work to shift old patterns. If that sounds like you, I’d love for you to reach out!

Dr. Rachel Scheinfield
College can look exciting on the outside — but behind the scenes, many students feel overwhelmed, exhausted, and unsure they’re keeping up. You may be juggling classes, pressure to succeed, shifting friendships, family expectations, and big decisions about your future — all while trying to hold it together on the outside. If you feel anxious, overwhelmed, unmotivated, or unsure of yourself, you’re not the only one. I work with students who care about doing well but feel burned out from trying to keep up. Many struggle with anxiety, procrastination, trouble focusing, low confidence, perfectionism, or feeling like they don’t quite fit in. Others feel stuck after a setback, unsure about their direction, or overwhelmed by the independence and responsibility that come with college life. Together, we will focus on understanding what’s driving the stress and building practical tools to help you feel more grounded and in control. We might work on managing anxiety, improving focus and organization, navigating relationships, strengthening confidence, and creating a healthier balance between achievement and well-being. I offer a supportive, welcoming, and judgment-free space where you can be real about what you’re going through and feel understood. My goal is to help you make college feel more manageable and to help you move forward with clarity, confidence, and a stronger sense of who you are.

They're juggling the load of all the roles they fill, tend to put others before themself, are feeling disconnected or hurt in a relationship, or have a hard time quieting the constant chatter in their minds. With a spirit of authenticity, transparency, and some humor, I help women and couples to feel seen and understood as we unpack current or past issues and create a new path forward.

Laura Hamilton
Does it ever feel hard (or impossible) to just be yourself? You hear it all the time…people say, “just be you,” but it feels out of reach, too utterly terrifying, or too risky. Or maybe you are still discovering who you are. You’re asking questions and getting curious about aspects of your identity, how you view the world, and how you show up authentically in it. Maybe something shifted recently and you are trying to rediscover your sense of self while your world feels upside down. I help people find their most authentic self. In therapy, we get curious about different parts of ourselves. Parts that have had to stay hidden, parts that respond to triggers, parts we’ve been afraid to face. Working together, I'll support you as you deepen your understanding of your full self and increasingly show up as congruent, authentic, and fully you.

Rachel Gustafson, PsyD
Hi! I'm Rachel (She/her). I work with people navigating trauma, anxiety, perfectionism, neurodivergence (ADHD/Autism), and LGBTQ identity exploration—along with any big, messy questions about meaning, identity, and purpose. I celebrate all unique identities, values, and lived experiences that you bring into the therapy space. I am committed to upholding values of social justice and fostering advocacy in systems of oppression. Whatever your goal is, I hope to work with you to make a space that helps you feel valued and seen as a whole person. I see therapy as collaborative. We’ll work together to understand your patterns and build your self-trust. I feel honored to serve as a partner with you as we peel away the protective layers no longer serving you. I primarily use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which helps increase psychological flexibility—supporting you in building a meaningful life even through hardship and pain. Many people come to therapy feeling stuck in patterns of overthinking, trying to “fix” their way out of emotions. My approach helps clients shift from analyzing to understanding. We create space for both self-compassion and meaningful change. I also draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Process Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, and Relational-Cultural Therapy, depending on what best supports your needs, identities and therapy goals. I value authenticity in the therapy space and strive to create an environment where you feel safe to show up as your full self. My therapy style is relaxed, genuine, and laid-back, balancing humor and lightheartedness with sensitivity and empathy.

Nkechi Saleh
Nkechi “Kay” Saleh, APRN, PMHNP-BC is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with more than eight years of experience providing compassionate mental health care across a variety of settings, including private practice, community mental health, residential treatment for at-risk youth, and substance use treatment programs. Kay works with adolescents and adults and has extensive experience supporting individuals with depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, panic disorder, OCD, trauma and PTSD, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, and other neurodivergent conditions. She also has experience treating individuals with psychotic disorders, including schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder. Her approach to psychiatric care is trauma-informed, evidence-based, culturally responsive, and collaborative. Kay understands that reaching out for mental health care, especially for the first time, it can feel intimidating. Her first priority is creating a space where you feel comfortable being yourself and sharing your concerns at your own pace. She takes time to understand the whole person, not simply a diagnosis or list of symptoms. Students often appreciate Kay’s warm, relaxed, and down-to-earth personality. She believes psychiatric appointments can be professional without feeling cold or impersonal. Clients have described it as refreshing to work with a psychiatric provider who feels like a “real human being.” And while she takes your mental health seriously, don’t be surprised if a corny joke occasionally finds its way into your appointment. Kay welcomes individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and provides inclusive, gender-affirming care. She works collaboratively with each person to develop an individualized treatment plan that reflects their symptoms, experiences, goals, and preferences. Whether you are struggling with anxiety or depression, navigating ADHD or other neurodivergent challenges, recovering from trauma, or simply realizing that you may need additional support, Kay’s goal is to help you feel heard, understood, and actively involved in your mental health care.
